One of the worst states for charging a person with a sex offense is Arizona. If you are charged with relieving yourself on the side of a highway while traveling, you will be on a sex offender registry for 25 years once you serve 10 years! A young man physically involved with his girlfriend, can be charged with molestation, held until an adult, charged as an adult and sentenced to 10 to 15 years as a sex offender!! New Mexico should be above this type of labeling and prosecution! I was born here, love my state and own property here. My son will be coming home after 13 years in prison in Arizona for “attempted” molestation, which he was charged with by an alcoholic wife. He has never, ever done anything like this, he had absolutely no physical evidence against him, and because New Mexico’s Legislature will not fully review how these sex offender laws hurt so many people my son is coming home to more “out of prison rules” that will negatively impact his life! Please be courageous enough to take the time to discuss your sex offender laws with people from Liberty and Justice Coalition…because these people live under the c.oud of these repressive laws!!
